Marilyn Moore

Introducing Marilyn Moore as one of our new labels for the 2007 spring season at Diva Totnes with a couple of tasters on our website too.
After just a few weeks in the shop it is already becoming a hit with our customers with her beautiful female styles of soft cashmere knitwear and flowery fabrics.
If you want to know more about Marilyn Moore, please read their ‘biography’ below or pop into our shop in Totnes to have a look at her collection. On our website you will find a lovely flowery tunic-dress and a stunning piece of knitwear for spring-weather.
Born in Wiltshire into a large farming family, Marilyn Moore was inspired by beautiful fabrics from an early age. She remembers her fascination with a box of pre-war silk swatch cards given to her by a dress-maker. As a young girl, she created the world’s first disposable dress, with a school uniform she made for her dolls from kitchen paper towels!

Marilyn’s background in textile design and design management won her a number of awards. Her talent was immediately recognised by Laura Ashley with whom she worked during their major growth period. In 1984 she set up their product development department and created a strong image for knitwear making it the most profitable area of the company.

A natural progression led Marilyn to Jaegar where she was responsible for the product development of the knitwear collection and Jaegar branded accessories. Her experience in corporate identity and design image building also ensured her success within the mens fashion company Sabre.

For a number of years Marilyn worked as a freelance designer and buying consultant for Harvey Nichols, Phase Eight and Boden. After repeated requests for contemporary garments using fine quality yarns and fabrics Marilyn began to contemplate the idea of producing her own knitwear range and contemporary separates.

The Marilyn Moore label was set up in 1994 with the concept to design a collection that was individual with a twist on the old English classics.

The label is now in its eleventh year and developing year on year with prestigious retailers such as Harrods and Graham & Green. Spring / Summer 1999 saw expansion into Fenwicks, Bond street, who is now the biggest stockist of the brand in London, with further expansion for the Autumn / Winter 2003 range into Selfridges. The collection is now available in reputable stockists worldwide and at her own shops: 7,Elgin Crescent, Notting Hill, London and 71 White Hart Lane, Barnes, London.
