‘Archive Fashion’
I have tried and tested the word all day and can’t quite decide how it sounds and feels. I am actually talking about vintage fashion. The latest news in the world of fashion according to people in the know, vintage fashion should from now on be referred to as ‘archive fashion’ or just simply second hand, reports Grazia magazine this week.
For somebody like myself who sometimes struggle to tell the difference between vintage and second hand it will not make much of a difference what it is called. ‘Recycled fashion’ would be a more appropriate word in these green-orientated days. It might not have that luxury ring to it but it sound much more environmentally friendly. Then again, judging from what we saw on London Fashion Week in February, recycled fashion does actually exist but in a whole different meaning… dresses made from old plastic bags or other amazing creations made from ‘old’ clothes. Not sure if I could use the word archive on this occasion.
Whilst vintage is seen as quite the thing to wear at the moment or rather IS the thing to wear (as long as it is the right vintage-piece) I am wondering if this new title will score as high with the vintage-lovers or in the magazine headlines?
Does ‘archive’ sound as rich and glamorous as ‘vintage’? Vintage sounds like something old which is still very much alive and classy whilst archive initially sounds like something old which has simply stayed old, tucked away in a dark cupboard not to be disturbed.
Well, as with everything we will all get used to it. I will be intrigued to see which magazine or paper will be the first to officially use the phrase if this is really the new fashionista language to use.
We have a few ‘archive pieces’ ourselves on our list of products. Cute little bags selected by Angela with much care and affection to give you a that truly individual look.
