Spring Is In The Air

Filed under: All Articles, Malin Reports - Aron @ 8:43 pm -

I have got that spring feeling. As soon as the sun comes out it just grabs you. It is impossible not to feel good, happy and ‘springy’. I am normally not an unhappy or miserable person but the sun really does put you in a good mood instantly. And it is free. Whilst most things in life have a price, this sunny feel-good feeling is free of charge. The only thing which might just dampen your happy mood a little bit on a day like today and which is exactly what happened to me today, is the constant clothing-problem. What to wear???

It is making that transition from your ‘winter-wardrobe’ to your ‘spring/summer-wardrobe’. It is always a bit of a challenge the first few days. A bit of a trial. You desperately want to put that sleeveless top on, the cropped trousers or that skirt from last year that you liked so much, but the mirror-image staring back at you doesn’t quite look the same as the suntanned, slimline image you had visualised in your head as you were getting dressed.

With two little girls (and a husband) constantly wanting your attention, the days when you had all the morning to yourself and could quite easily end up changing your clothes four times (at least I often did) before deciding on the day’s outfit are long gone. These days, the ‘uniform’ (jeans, t-shirt and Converse) comes out as the perfect solution if nothing else grabs your taste within the first 30 seconds of opening the wardrobe-doors. And as I have explained, the ‘uniform’ works every time for me. It is great in any weather and for any activity. No need to worry about unshaven, white legs or cellulites.

This morning husband took oldest daughter to nursery so with a content and very captive audience in form of my five months old daughter I had a little bit of extra time to get dressed today. I really fancied wearing something a bit more ‘springy’ (…as in the season… not some bouncing trainers). After about five changes of clothes I finally settled for… my jeans, a long-sleeved white ribbed t-shirt and my Converse!!!?! By then I also felt slightly more deflated and the good mood had certainly dropped a few degrees. Whatever I put on it just didn’t work. And my daughter’s admiring eyes thinking mummy looked fabulous just wasn’t enough to make me feel comfortable.

I think it was all about the legs. The upper body was actually ok. I felt quite happy with that part. It is the area from the waist down which is the problem. Cropped trousers, leggings or skirt, I tried it all. It was the whiteness and the winter-legs which I just couldn’t do. The thin, but most certainly there, extra layer of fat surrounding my calves just didn’t help either. I suppose it is a phase we all need to go through. And unless you have spent every day of the winter in the gym and just returned from a holiday in the Caribbean, the white and slightly unfit looking legs is something you’ll just have to deal with. I am going to do it! Get them out. Not today though. I will keep them safely tucked in my jeans today. Maybe I’ll make another attempt tomorrow to show a bit of flesh, get rid of my winter-wardrobe and put some new things on.
