The countdown in women’s clothing for ‘new season’ is on!
Friday, January 26th, 2007It is like Christmas all over. There should be a ‘fashionista’s calendar’ for this time of the year when the wait for the new season goodies is on. One little ‘window’ to open each day. Each day with a taste of what is to come.
Every day I read the fashion-columns in the newspapers, Grazia is in my bag on a weekly basis and the monthly glossies such as Elle, Marie-Claire, Easy Living and Vogue are a permanent fixtures on my coffee-table for intense reading whilst breast-feeding my daughter.
I should be fully informed and up to date on what to wear for this season by the time all the new stuff are hitting the shelves in the shops and online. (I should by now also be fully up to date with the latest celebrity-gossip!)
Now… I am no fashionista… no-one to go crazy in the hunt for the latest key-pieces or desperately trying to display the latest look. But I am a woman… and what woman doesn’t like to look good and to splash out on a bit of shopping once in a while … type every month… type every week… type as often as you can afford to and without upsetting husband when household-budget goes overdrawn?
My career may be food & beverage, but having married in to a ‘fashion-family’ I am slowly getting drawn into the hype, or more so should I say … the DESIRE to be part of the glamorous world of fashion.
I don’t want you to think I was ever the ugly duckling having been rescued and now going through a transformation to get rid of greasy chipfat from my restaurant-days. Having looked after restaurants in both Harrods and Selfridges for almost ten years I have, despite selling Champagne & smoked salmon, very much been in the midst of the beautiful world of London-fashion and latest trends. Never have my store-cards been so much used as during those years, both on Champagne… and other women’s must-haves.
However, being a mother and nearing 40 my style and my needs have changed. Power-dressing is no longer required, and the daily ironing of shirts and maintenance of sore feet after twelve hour working-days in 4 inch high heels is no longer on my agenda.
Instead I want to be a bit more adventurous with what I wear in a grown-up sort of way. At getmyfashion we are really trying to come up with a collection of more grown-up and mature fashion but still contemporary & stylish, both everyday-wear and for special occasions. But like Angela, my mother-in-law and the buyer and style-guru of this company, would say ‘-we need to rethink what everyday-wear is’ and she feels that it is time to stop being restricted in what we buy just because we are buying for ‘everyday-wear’. Go for dresses and skirts with prints and colour, do the skinny-jean-look, invest in some soft knitwear for chilly days and so on. Accessorize with jewellery, bags and hats and bring life to a plain look. Don’t aim to be the mummsiest of all at playgroup, be the mum who lights up the room. Don’t just blend in, stand out!
Once again, may I stress… fashion is not about how you are perceived by other people. It is about YOU and about feeling GOOD. I know we are all different, but I know that I feel a million times better in new clothes, perhaps a new style… (and a haircut, a new Mac lipstick and some Lindt chocolate in my handbag to go with it).
And not everyone is as fortunate as me to have a style-advisor at hand as and when I need it, but Angela can be your style-advisor too. Just keep an eye on our ‘keylooks-section’ where she will advice on the latest trends and how to put outfits together.
SO, as part of my new year’s-aim to update my old self; ‘new season’…bring it on!!! I am as ready to click away and hit the shops as I’ll ever be.
